How is HIV and AIDS positioned in the Post-2015 Development Agenda?
In the final Outcome Document of the UN Open Working Group (composed of 69 Member States), which will be the basis of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) for the next 15 years, there are 17 proposed goals and 169 targets. Ending AIDS is one of the 9 targets under the proposed Health Goal. It reads:
3.3 by 2030 end the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, and neglected tropical diseases and combat hepatitis, water-borne diseases, and other communicable diseases
Since the 32nd meeting of the UNAIDS Programme Coordinating Board, the Post-2015 development agenda has been a standing agenda item in the meetings. The NGO Delegation has been closely monitoring this process and actively engaging in various regional and global platforms and processes to put HIV into the agenda.
