Ms. Lucy Chesire Appointed as Interim Alternate Board Member for the Communities Living with HIV, Tuberculosis & Affected by Malaria Delegation of the Global Fund Board
The Communities Living with HIV, Tuberculosis and affected by Malaria Delegation (Communities Delegation) of the Global Fund Board is please to announce the appointment of Ms. Lucy Chesire as the Interim Alternate Board Member. Ms. Chesire replaces Mr. Shaun Mellors, who became Board Member after the resignation of Ms. Morolake Odetoyinbo. Ms Chesire will serve as the Interim Alternate Board Member with effect 1st September 2011 through 31st January 2012.
Ms. Chesire is the Executive Director of TB ACTION Group, a community-based organisation formed by TB and TB-HIV patients in Kenya and is one of the most prominent activists of TB-HIV, and has achieved important TB advancements at both regional and global levels, raising the profile of TB internationally.
Lucy served as the first patient representative on the Stop TB Partnership Coordinating Board and has been a member of the TB-HIV core group and working group, Advocacy Advisory Group of the Stop TB Partnership, and a number of TB advisory groups at country level. Currently she is also a member of many global advisory groups on TB – including the Civil Society Support Team to the UNITAID Board, Proposal Steering Group of TB REACH (a Canadian funded project through the Stop TB Partnership), Strategic Technical Advisory Group (STAG-TB), Global Green Light Committee.
In 2007, Lucy was awarded the Karel Styblo Award in recognition of her global advocacy efforts in Public Health, and in 2009 she was the first female recipient awarded the prestigious Kochon Award for her efforts in advocating for TB and TB-HIV, Lucy is a member of the International Community of Women Living with HIV, the International AIDS Society and National Empowerment and Network of People Living with HIV in Kenya, and also the Global Advisory Board Member of the International Treatment Preparedness Coalition.
