The Global Fund’s Gender Equality Strategy was endorsed by the Global Fund Board in 2008 to reaffirm its commitment to addressing gender issues. In 2009, a four-year Plan of Action (2009-2012) was developed for its implementation, aiming to ensure that the Global Fund is financing grants that address gender inequalities as an integral part of the fight against the three diseases. In 2011, the Global Fund has to undertake an evaluation of the implementation of the Gender Equality Strategy to be presented to Global Fund Board. This evaluation will be developed by PANGAEA Global AIDS Foundation.
The purpose of the consultation that FEIM and GCWA has launched is specifically to collect women’s opinions around the world in regards to the implementation of the Gender Equality Strategy so as to ensure the inclusion of diverse women’s voices, including women living with and affected by HIV, from around the world in the review being undertaking this year by the Global Fund. This will complement the PANGAEA evaluation.
