The participation of women’s rights organizations and networks of women living with HIV is key to ensure the presence of a gender and human rights approach in the AIDS response, and in particular to ensure the effectiveness of specific programs aimed at women and girls.
In this sense, the UNAIDS Action Framework: addressing Women, Girls, Gender Equality and HIV is a step. Ensuring the inclusion of women’s movement perspectives, taking into account the ways that HIV intersects with other issues, such as violence against women, sexual and reproductive health and the feminization of the epidemic is part of our work as NGO Observers at this meeting. These are key issues for the women’s movement to contribute to a strategic, comprehensive response to the epidemic.
For women who are involved, the task is certainly a challenge and a space for exchanging experiences, information and knowledge, develop strategies and alliances with other sectors and work in close collaboration with other women.
